Week in the Life: Day 1

Good morning!  I guess after Labor Day I kind of disappeared on you guys.  It kicked off my freaking-out about my upcoming fall and holiday craft fairs, so I spent every weeknight and almost all weekend down in my sewing studio, sewing up a storm.

The good news?  I am having a blast working my little butt off down in my dedicated studio.  The shelving I built in the studio is coming in SO handy for keeping cut fabric and items organized as I work.

I think this year I’m more on top of craft show prep than ever before, so the other good news is that I should be able to finish posting about the studio makeover this month.  I was just needed last week to get ahead with product creation.

This year, like last year, I’m participating in the Week in the Life challenge.  This is a blog miniseries that I’m doing just for myself.  My neighbor Sarah is doing it too!

Monday

Monday morning I woke around 7 am.  I’ve been having trouble waking up early lately; I feel exhausted no matter how much sleep I get. After that it’s easy:

Coffee, puppies in yard, feed the animals, feed the Jane. Check email and blog and all that jazz in case anything needs attention.  2013-09-09_1378745760

Here’s where my day is so much cooler than it was last year:  I work from home now (when I’m not traveling) so I just open my work laptop at its dedicated desk and get started in whatever I want to wear.

We’re also on a 9/80 schedule now, which means we do 9 hours a day and every other Friday we’re off.  So I have to start working by 8 am at the latest.

Problem with working from home? Kitchen proximity:  I am able to whip up anything I want to eat, which means I make a mess in the kitchen each and every day.

I take a lunch break, but not to eat – to run.  I hit the treadmill for a good 30 minutes and hit a new distance record for puny little me:  2.6 miles.  Awesome.2013-09-09_1378755138

After a quick shower, I get back to work while eating a lunch of beef hotdogs and spinach.  Random, but it was in the fridge and was easy.   Post-run lavender hot chocolate

My solution for my sweet tooth?  Whip up a little mug of lavender hot cocoa, with very little sugar.  that way it’s not too unhealthy. 2013-09-09_1378761659

Around 5:30 I start to wind down work, and pour a glass of leftover (but fab) red wine from Linden Vineyards.  I’m not in a wine mood, though, so I use the wine to cook up some chicken thighs that were in the freezer.  My experiment works – so we have dinner ready for Tuesday night!2013-09-09_1378762422

Of course now the kitchen is a wreck, so I clean it up before Ryan gets home from work. 2013-09-09_1378768572

Exciting!  Ryan is home and he brought in the mail and in it was some ah-mazing voile fabric I ordered for infinity scarves.  I head to the basement and whip up a sample for myself.  Yep, it’s awesome.  Yep, I’m going to sell them.2013-09-10_1378776217

I attempt to play with the puppies but these days their attention span is limited.  🙁 2013-09-10_1378777153It’s a day when Ryan gets home from work after 7, and he isn’t done running until after 8, so we eat dinner separately.  I just have an apple and almond butter while I make the tough decisions on what fabrics to order.  I’m just getting a little more based on what sold best during last fall’s craft fair.

I finish around 11 pm and hit the sack.  Tomorrow is a busy day with me needing to be at two events at once for work.  Yeehaw!
