Two vintage additions flew into our abode this weekend: a set of mid-mod seagull bookends, and a set of vintage books.
I bought the bookends from Bri at Me, You and a Weiner. She recently closed her booth at an antique mall, and is selling her “crap.” I don’t happen to think these birds are crap. If you haven’t discovered Bri yet, you’re missing out – She’s a furniture makeover goddess.
I may spray paint them down the road. But for now I’m cool with them as-is.
Oh, and the books? They’re an almost-complete set of the “Illustrated Do It Yourself Encyclopedia, Popular Mechanic Edition” from 1957.
I found them this weekend while thrifting with blogging neighbor Sarah 🙂 – and I knew Ryan would love them! The entire set was only $27.50. For an 11-book set, that’s not bad.
I added the whole shebang to my mid-mod cabinet in my living room. The display had become far too white.

I never wanted to spray paint them cause the brass gives them so much character! I’m looking for an encyclopedia collection as well, but in an emerald green. Don’t know if they even exist. But I’m looking for them damn it! Seagulls were meant for those books!
These are so cute! I love them! 🙂
The books look great – I knew they would! They seemed very “Jane” to me.
