The basement guest room is progressing very slowly. I still need to buy sheets for the beds, but I am not sure exactly where I’m going with it, so I don’t want to rush and make poor design decisions.
This week’s big accomplishment? I’ve hung this vintage mirror in the guest room – and I rescued it from my parents’ basement. The plan was to paint it a nice warm yellow, to add some contrast to the space. But now I’m not so sure. Should it remain the way it is, with a vintage bronze-y feel? Does everything really need a coat of paint?
Ponder that, would you, and let me know what you think. In the mean time, I’m heading out of town for my bachelorette weekend. Can’t wait to have so many of my closest friends in one place. That’s a very rare occurrence!

Ooh, that’s tough! I can totally see it in a great contrasting color, but it also looks so RIGHT as is.
Have a GREAT bachelorette weekend!! 🙂
i’m fine with the dresser. But I feel like the mirror would be awesome in white.
ok i did not read that sentence carefully, yellow would be gorgeous too!
I think the mirror would be gorgeous in yellow! Have a great weekend Jane!
Bright colors always pop better in photos which I think makes it hard for people to objectively judge when not viewing in person, so it’s really your call. Personally, I don’t think everything needs a coat of paint, but in my opinion the mirror would do well with some yellow. I think that would look kind of awesome actually.
Based on just this one picture I’d say paint it, the room looks a little dark & a light frame would really pop agains that wall. But if you are hesitant I’d wait until the bedding is picked out & other art work is hung.
I say leave the mirror – the bronzey vintagey color goes well with the nightstand and adds a natural feel to the room that doesn’t compete with the fun patterns and colors that you already have going on.
I say paint. 🙂 I try not to always say paint, but I think your idea is a fantastic one and it would look great against the wall. Hope you had a fantastic time partying it up with friends!
I vote paint it! Although I’m usually for natural wood color, I think it could be really fun in a light color, since it’s such a focal point in the room.
All you really need to do is lower it about six inches. It needs to be anchored (visually, not literally) to that nightstand. Love everything about this! Are you planning to add a rug to warm things up? Maybe that’s where your fun color could come in.
Hi Annie! Thanks for your suggestion 🙂 The problem was that I really wanted it up high enough to catch the light from the tiny, high little window in that room. (Basement windows are the worst.) But now I have moved the mirror (just this weekend, actually) and have a different one there.
So hopefully if I add a lamp to that table it will pull things together. Yep, I’m definitely looking for a good rug. May bring the yellow in that way!
