What I Ate Wednesday & Special One-Day Janery Sale!

In case you can’t tell from the title, this post is totally not design related.  I generally like to stick to decor & business-related topics, but today I’m putting my party pants on so that I can participate in Jenn’s What I Ate Wednesday party over at Peas & Crayons.   I love to cook, but lately there hasn’t been much excitement in my kitchen, simply because I’m so busy trying to keep this blog going and running my shop.  This past Saturday I did, however, remember to take a few photos – so here goes.

This past Saturday started like any other – I woke up and made my way to Caffe Amouri for an Espresso Macchiato.  Yum.

Once the caffeine infusion was coursing through my veins,  I was able to really start the day.

Off to the farmer’s market for fresh fruits and veggies!   I have to brag for a moment – several people complimented me on my reusable produce bags – and they really do come in handy for stocking up on everything from tiny beans to huge leaves of kale.

I nibbled on a freshly baked scone from one of the market vendors . . . but it was gone before I could get a photo.  🙂

Once home, it was time for me to sew.  I got so caught up in working with some exciting new fabric and creating a new product for the shop that I totally forgot to eat a real lunch.  I did, however, snack on my favorite healthy chip-alternative:  Nacho Cheesy Kale Chips from New Family Naturals.

Mind if I ramble for a moment?  Ever since I discovered the kale chips from NFN’s stand at the farmer’s market, I’ve been addicted.  And it’s an awesome addiction to have, because they’re a super tasty low-carb, vegan, wheat-free snack.  And thanks to the air-crisping process, the kale leaves are still packed with nutrients.  Finally I have a tasty alternative to potato chips.

It’s a good thing the kale chips are healthy, because I devoured a bag of them instead of eating lunch.

Dinner, however, made up for what lunch was lacking.  Before Ryan took me out on our amazing date, I whipped up a recipe I’d torn out of a magainze months ago:  A “manly” steak & blue cheese salad, a side of grilled fresh corn, and a glass of a hearty Portuguese red wine.

The salad was awesome.  The only part of the meal that wasn’t locally grown was the wine.  (But the wine was purchased from a small, local shop – the Vienna Vintner.)

I’d say this was a pretty accurate glimpse of a typical weekend’s meals. I rarely remember to eat a healthy lunch on weekends, especially when I’m in the midst of a ton of sewing.

I love kale chips! I eat a lot of homemade kale chips … I think we average going through about 3 lbs of kale a week in my house.
