New Flourishes: Catnip Purr Pads

This just in:  modern, colorful, and  magically cat-attracting Catnip Purr Pads!

That’s right, I’ve finally listed some new products in my Etsy shop.  And I promise, they’re not your grandma’s cat beds.  No, unlike many of the cat products you find nowadays, these are actually made of hip, modern fabrics and patterns, rather than crazy cat lady style prints.

I’ve always thought that if I actually have pets, why would I need to have accessories for them that are covered in paw prints and cat faces, etc?  I mean, if you I want paw prints in my house, I just have to let my cats and dogs be themselves on a muddy, rainy day.  They can DIY that pattern all over my furniture in a second!

But I digress.

I’ve been having a blast playing around with fabrics, cutting them up and piecing them together in different ways.  I’m starting to see why quilters love their hobby so much – why just settle for sewing from one fabric when you can have even more fun sewing with several at a time?

The purr pads are approximately 17×19 inches square, though I am considering making them slightly larger in the future.

I first created one of these catnip-infused cushions for my cat when she took to sleeping on my new white sofa in all her long-black-haired glory.  Sure enough, she was immediately drawn to the cushy pad, and chose to sleep (and shed) on it instead of the couch.  And when it was time for some catnip play time, I simply flipped the pad over to the fuzzy fleece side, sprinkled the catnip on it, and let my cat go to town.  This way, most of the dried herb stayed on the cat pad, rather than getting all over the place.

I’ll be listing more purr pads through the weekend, and I’m also finishing up some unique, fun pillows  – both of which are sewn partly from pieces of repurposed fabrics:  old suits, sweaters, etc.  I can’t wait to show them to you next week!

I’m still struggling with time management – between working 40 hrs, writing for the blog, and designing patterns and sewing products for the shop.  I’ve become pretty anti-social, pretty much shutting myself out of the world when I’m not at work.  But I’m happy to have taken one more step towards creating the products that initially inspired the launch of Flourish Pets & Home.  But here’s a teaser: in about 50 days I may have a bit more time for sewing . . .  that’s all I’ll tell you for now!

Cheers,

~Jane~

OH HELL YEAH. I was wondering when these were gonna come out. Got any masculine greens? Mr. Catson appears an exceptionally distinguished gentleman against a green background (and everywhere else, but I digress…). 😛
