Lately I seem to have amassed a ton of photos of my animals being weird, so I figured I’d tell you about some of the things we put up with here at the animal house that we call The Borrowed Abode.
Let’s start with this guy. No, he’s not my pet, but he looks so awesome he had to go first. When my good friend comes to visit with her pups, her big lug of a pup likes to sit on the sofa. Like a person. And he lets you play dress-up, so how could I resist?
But back to the regulars in this Animal House. Take my cat Doctor, for example. He’s needy. And whiny. But awesome. And he loves laps so much that he’ll do whatever it takes to get some lap time.
When I knelt on one knee at my computer the other day and he hopped up onto my other leg to just sleep, I couldn’t bear to move him. He slept, balancing on my thigh, for about 30 minutes. I had to get a pic.
Maybe that’s a better way to sit when blogging, then, since the regular seated position causes more of a feline obstruction to the typing process. Especially because when he wakes up, he likes to lick your wrists as you type. Talk about typos…
Then there’s this weirdo, Aretha. For reasons unknown to mankind, she is deathly afraid of Ryan. And the poor guy tries so hard to win her over. Of course that one week when I went away and he had to give her antibiotic drops 2x a day probably didn’t help his situation – apparently it ended many times with her diving under our bed, and him having to remove the mattress just to get to her.
She’s always eager to punish my laziness when I don’t make the bed perfectly…because she gets up in my pillows and tucks herself in. What can I say? She’d rather hibernate like a bear 24/7 than act like a young cat. One day I draped a blanket over her head and she stayed under it for hours. I had to pull her out eventually, for fear she’d suffocate!
The only way to briefly get her out of her shell is to serve her up a nice big bowl of catnip. (Don’t worry, I took it away after a minute.)
So now that I’ve shared our feline weirdness, it’s your turn! Do you live with any peculiar pets?

haha you know my pets are nutso! Maddie the cat eats all my herbs and potted veggies and bullet and roxy steal everything that has a crinkly wrapper or is packaged in plastic.
riiiiiidiculous!
My cat follows me around the house and also will do whatever to sit on a lap. Even the side of my leg if I’m lying on the couch. Never looks very comfortable but she does it anyway. She also HAS TO be in the bathroom when I take a shower. She just sits on the counter and chills, but she will scratch at the door to be let in if I am taking a shower. I guess she must like the steamy warm spa-like atmosphere. LOL
Two thing. How could you sit like that for 30 minutes with your cat on your leg? I would have crumbled after five. My knees are horrible. Ha! 😉 And second, I too live with some crazy animals. I just wrote a blog about them this week. My life is a million times better with the additon of Apple and Bowie. I have even been known to say that I am not sure I will love my future children as much as I love those dang dogs. And I have even given them their own tab on our blog. And Apple may or may not have her own Facebook page. Crazy dog lady here.

Your cats are so funny. I live with two dogs, each decidedly odd in his/her own way. I have an ornery papillon who sleeps approx. 22 hours a day and spends the rest of the time snacking and trying to attack the neighbor dogs through the fence. He was my dog long before I got married, but he will only cuddle with my husband, unless he’s scared, in which case I am the chosen one. The other dog is a border collie, just over a year old, who has a penchant for, as I learned far too late, eating house plants. I have lost my potted herb garden and approximately half my succulent population. She is moderately well-behaved when I can raise my voice over the ruckus she creates. She doesn’t lick, but she sniffs EVERYTHING and will stick her nose right up to your face as if to lick, but without the lick, which seems to bother people more than licking would. Her very favorite thing is sticking her head in the snow – all the way into the snow, the deeper the better. Her second-favorite thing is gnawing on all the couch cushions. I thought we’d broken this terrible habit months ago, but yesterday I found the all-too-familiar shreds of fabric, piping and batting tucked nicely in the corner of one of the throws. All in all, it’s a wonder she’s still around.
I was actually jsy staring at the one of you with the cat on your knee and thinking, how the hell is she doing that?!?!?!?
