Warning: Fire Hazard

. . . for the whole neighborhood, apparently.

Driving home last night we discovered that one of our neighbors is apparently desperately yearning for a bigger electric bill.  Or sending up a beacon to their alien friends, apparently.  Seriously, the amount of light radiating from this small home is almost as strong as the light pollution from all of downtown DC.

Let's hope they have good insurance!

For all my smart-ass commenting, however, this is part of what I love about the season.  All the beautiful white lightscapes that look so romantic –  or the fun colorful, over-the-top lights you see and chuckle at . . . before thinking “thank heavens I don’t live next to that house.”  Simply because . . . can you imagine having all that light pollution streaming into your windows at night??

What’s your light style?  We’ve yet to do up our yard, but we want to.  I’m a fan of white lights on the house, candles in the windows, and the little reindeer topiary thingies.  Ryan’s more of the style pictured above. . . with a healthy dash of  moderation.

    Holy socket overload!

I’m with you, all white lights outside at our casa. On the tree inside it’s all white lights, but I run a strand of colored multi-function lights up the middle for something a little different. Love it!

That’s a bit much for me, but my family and I love looking at houses like that. It looks like your neighbor is at least using some LED lights (hard to tell if they’re all LED or not, though…) so that’s an improvement over the old days when all the lights were incandescent bulbs.

We used to do the white lights and a candle in each window thing, but we live in a really modern house and the look just wouldn’t work. Instead, we have two strands of color LED lights wrapped on our porch railing and another one around a small tree.
