First, congrats to the Hanging Cutout Screens giveaway winner – Amanda from Hip House Girl, who said she’d probably use them in her bedroom. I can’t wait to see what you do with them!
Now late last week the Halloween decorating bug bit me. Better late than never, I guess?
Since the holiday’s now come and gone, I’ll be brief: I made some little ghosts and hung them from tree branches, which I lashed to the sides of our front step railings. I cut black cat silhouettes out of poster board and stuck them all along our front windows. Last night, when friends came over for dinner, each of us couples carved a pumpkin. We finished them just as the sun set and the first kids showed up on our stoop. Last, we lined the walkway with candles – each set in an old glass jar which was covered with red tissue paper. I loved how it turned out.
But for some reason, we didn’t get that many kids knocking on our door. We live in a nice neighborhood, with lots of families, and we’re frankly quite puzzled. We saw maybe 20 kids all night? And most of them were under age 7, I’m pretty sure. What the heck? Now I’ve got all this candy, and I have no self control. I may actually have to throw it out.
Maybe they were just intimidated by our scary pumpkins:
What about you? Did you have a good turnout of costumed kids?

We did not have very many kids either–I think because it was on a Sunday night. Your pumpkins look good!
We had a very disappointing turnout…which means there is way too much candy left to tempt me. HA!
I have a ton of candy left too, but it WAS a school night.
And I think your decorations are just divine!
I grabbed coffee with some friends at a really popular outdoor mall and got to see all the little monsters running around in costume — last minute plans but best idea ever! There was a 6month old in a REPTAR costume… made my night! =)
love the pumpkins and kitty cat decals! so festive!
No trick or treaters in our ‘hood, we live too far back off the road. I did see one very sassy chihuahua sporting a hotdog costume earlier in the day though! Very cute decorations!!
Thank you so much! Awesome!
I’m thinking of throwing out my candy, too. Or pulling a Miranda and squeezing dish soap all over it.
