All you vintage fans out there, heads up! My first Friday Freebie really takes the cake. Literally.
I’d like to kick off my first giveaway with this vintage cake carrier. It has some fun bells and whistles: not only does the top part hold a large round cake, the bottom part can hold either a pie or paper plates and flatware.
It makes me think of the good ole’ days, when homemade birthday cakes were the norm, and store-bought cakes were unthinkable. My parents still make me homemade cakes with my dad’s dee-licious cream cheese icing. He’d decorate the cake with chocolate icing in order to keep us safe from food dyes. Smart man!
All cakes aside, this could also make a sweet little carrier for a picnic. It’s finally getting to be that time of year!

Ok. Just because I like the tin I’m going to give this a shot. My fave cake memory is actually fairly new. This year for Tyler’s birthday I made him his birthday cake. It was just a white cake w/ chocolate icing that I decorated myself. It wasn’t anything special but when I set it down in front of him he looked at it & told me it was the best cake after all (his way of saying it was a great cake). It made me feel Really good to have him say that.
I personally prefer to make them homemade but due to a lack of time sometimes I have to deal with store made… Which I hate. I also prefer non-dyed icing because they tend to be not as sweet, but sometimes a small accent of color isn’t bad (as long as it’s a Touch of it).
oh i LOVE that cake pan! i really want to give it a good home!
my favorite cake is homemade. i think it probably stems from all those years of making funfetti cakes with mom for nearly every family birthday.

That is the best darn cake carrier I’ve ever seen. I would make the ladies in my Bible study oh-so-jealous if I came strolling in with that baby (and of course, you know, a cake.) But really, with a cake carrier that cool–who needs cake?
Last year for my birthday my friend who was taking cake decorating classes made me a purse on the shape of a cake. It wasn’t the best tasting cake I’ve ever had, but it certainly was the coolest-looking.
This is certainly a great cake carrier! I would love to win because I love ot bake for my sweeties!
Let’s see. My most vivid cake related memory was of my fifth birthday and my mom made me a cake that was decorated like a big swimming pool and little bear graham crackers were swimming in it, it was pretty elaborate and I certainly thought it was special!
I also remember one time she made my uncle a beer mug shaped cake and it said Cheers! because that was his fave show at the time and also because it was his birthday.
I will certainly bake cakes for my little daughter, but I think buying them can be fun, too!

I love that tin, and it’s in my colors! My favorite cake to make is a triple layer whole wheat carrot cake with cream cheese icing made from scratch. We never buy desserts, we always make our own. In fact, my son has been tackling a few recipes over on my blog, and just finished his first pineapple upside down cake from scratch.
My favorite cake memory is that of a surprise carrot cake my wife made me. She’s not exactly a baker so for her to whip out the kitchen aid and buy blue frosting was a real treat. The cake was very tasty even if it looked like it was frosted by a drunken monkey.
Well I’m a fan of this vintage cake pan and would be tickled purple (my favorite color) to show her off as my own! One of my favorite cake memories is the annual easter bunny cake I’ve been making with my son’s over the years. Using one of the two freshly baked old fashioned butter flavored round cakes, we’d cut the bunny ears from either side )( leaving the perfect “bow tie” section in the middle; add it to the base of the remaining round cake (the face) and position the two ears )( on either side to create your one of a kind bunny cake. Together we would icing the bunny and decorate his bow tie with colorful jelly beans and use licorice for his whisker and “Snocap” candy for the eyes & nose. They never got too old to have the Bunny Cake at Easter Time and it’s created lasting memories of quality time spent over the years. Although I prefer to eat a homemade, I will travel high and low to find a baker/bakery that is worthy of the drive. For his 8th Bday, she made him a 3-D Jimmy Neutron cake complete with 3-D glasses! His 13th was a Skateboard & Ramp, also pictured, 9th row down. To sum it up, I have some cake stories and an avid believer EVERYONE should have a cake on their Bday!!
