Giveaways & Contests, Janery

New in the Shop: Sunglass Sweaters! (& commentary from Ryan)

Happy Friday!  I bet I’m not the only one who’s glad the weekend is here, and I figured we should celebrate with a little giveaway from Janery!

Just yesterday I added a brand new product that I’m really excited about – Sunglass Sweaters!

Turquoise Chevron Sunny Sweater by Janery | theborrowedabode.com

They’re little sweaters to keep your sunnies safe and warm – just in time for the chilly fall weather.  Here’s the story behind this product:

Since last winter Ryan has been scouring dishes that I’ve burned, putting up with countless questions about when he was going to propose, and, when he finally did propose, a further barrage of questions, comments, and demands regarding wedding venues. This isn’t relevant to the post at all but I walked away from my laptop and Ryan took over. He’s hoping fervently that I don’t find this.

Sunglass Sweaters!  As we all know 6 out of 5 doctors warn us that exposing sunglasses to temperatures below 72 degrees leads to the lenses “shivering” and a reduced ability to filter the sun’s harmful rays from our delicate eyes. Our new line of super-hip Sunglass Sweaters are clinically proven in an imaginary lab to keep your sunglasses warm and toasty all year round.  In these fetching and stylish colors, your Ray-Bans will the envy of all the Gucci knock-off glasses on the streets!  With our non-patented technology of a dynamic plastic fastening system integrating with a well-defined aperture in a woolen textile-based material, which we refer to as a button, you can keep your precious sunnies snug until you’re ready to filter some UV wavelengths!

Ok, I’m back. Sorry about that interruption – I walked away to proofread some things for Ryan.  And this is the thanks I get? Comedic commentary?   🙂

AS I WAS SAYING . . .

I’m really excited about these sunglasses cases.  They’re totally unique, absolutely useful, and they allow me to bring old materials – primarily wool – back to life!

Here’s the story of their origin:

Last winter I started experimenting with “felting” old wool, when I found some pretty sweaters at Goodwill that had already shrunk or had holes in them.   I loved the colors and textures, and the way it allowed me to make old into new, and I was hooked.  I started keeping my eye out at thrift stores for wool sweaters, either hole-y ones, shrunken ones, or ones that were ugly as sweaters but had parts that would be pretty when re-used.

I ended up with a stack of sweater parts – because after you felt them, you dissect them into usable pieces.  One day a tiny shrunken sweater sleeve caught my eye, and I instantly thought of making it into a sunglasses case.

So to cut my long rambling story short, Janery now stocks upcycled Sunglass Sweaters!

They’ve got three layers of protection:  a thick felted wool outer shell, a layer of interfacing, and an inner liner of linen/cotton blend fabric.  There’s an elastic loop and button closure, and the cases are totally machine washable.

(**Please note, this giveaway is now closed.**)

And now, as another thank you to all my fabulous blog readers and Janery supporters, I’d liked to do a small TGIF giveaway!

Jane, I totally love these. Great gifts for friends and heaven’s knows I have about 8 pairs of sunglasses I have floating around without the protection that Ryan so fully believes they desperately need. I agree with him. 🙂 Please thank him for his helpful style and safety advice. 😉 BTW, I tweeted this and shared it on FB, not that I need to win something, but that I was just so excited to share them. Well done!

Those are adorable! And I just got a new pair of prescription sunglasses that need somewhere to live when they’re not on my face.

These are so cute! I’ll probably buy one even if I don’t win. 😉 I don’t have Twitter–I hope that doesn’t disqualify me. But I “liked” Janery on FB and also shared the Sunglass Sweaters on FB. Here’s what I said:
“Iwant one of these! I wear my sunglasses every day here in TX so I probably should take better care of them than just dumping them in my purse. =P”

These are really cute and I’d love to win one, of course, but if not, I’ll have to break down and buy one!  Great idea!

Oh wow those are so pretty!  Again, I need to learn how to sew, but for now, I’ll just purchase pretty things from amazing people like yourself!  Great sunglass sweaters!  Love them!
