Spraypaint is the new black

Before I discovered the wonderful world of blogging, I was a spraypaint virgin.

Not any more.

Recently this fine, solid cabinet was freecycled to me.  I placed it as an end table in my living room.  They yellowish-tan color was . . . well, I didn’t hate it, but I wasn’t lovin’ it.  The reason why I happily accepted the gifted piece?  Because I knew it had potential.  And solid wood furniture just ain’t cheap these days!

I thought it wanted a little more oomph.   In this case, that oomph came in the form of an aerosol spray can.  A can that contained bright red paint.  Oh yeah.  Why spray?  Because then I wouldn’t have pesky paintbrush lines.  They’re the worst!!

So. . . I lugged this baby outside.  I primed it with spray primer.  That’s a must, because the finish had a glossy sheen to it, and I didn’t want to sand what might be lead paint.  Then I let loose with the spray paint.  Neighborhood kids watched in awe.  Some of the girls wandered over and asked me a million pesky questions.  I happily answered, enlightening them on the thrifty wonders of spray paint.  Their eyes got wide with excitement.  I turned those ladies into future frugal DIY-ers.

When it was dry, I lugged it back inside.  Ta-dah!

I love this cabinet in red.  I think it suits it.  But I’m not sure it suits my otherwise natural-toned, mid-century furnished living room. So for now, that’s the most you can see of my latest living room projects.

Regardless, spraypaint is my new best friend. And no matter what I end up using in my living room, this cabinet will have a happy and cherished place somewhere in my home.
