Design Inspiration, Guest Room

Choosing Colors For the Guest Bedroom

After I lugged home my new-to-me bed frames for the guest room and shared them with you on the blog, I became seriously obsessed with the guest room decor plan.  I’ve had most of the room figured out for a while, but the one thing I hadn’t settled on was a color scheme and textile choices.   The easiest way to create a color scheme is to pic an inspiration piece or two – whether it’s something as small as a beautiful painting or colored vase, or as large as a phenomenal patterned rug.

The guest room will be a great place to experiment with Tempaper, a supposedly renter-friendly temporary and removable wallpaper.  And because they offer limited colors and patterns, I decided to choose a roll of Tempaper for the accent wall and take the color scheme from there.  (Bonus:  Tempaper is Made in the USA!)

My favorite design of all is the Marrakesh patten, but I felt that it was too dark and bold and big for the small, low-ceilinged room.

The still dark and bold but more delicate floral pattern of the Edie collection will make a great statement and dramatic backdrop as an accent wall.  And if balanced out with light and airy furnishings and patterns, I’m pretty confident it will not overwhelm the space.

But because the pattern based on a dark teal, I’m going to paint the bed frames a soft white.  Yes, as Ryan would say, I’m going to “repurpose” them.  I can promise you I’ll endure mocking from him for being so typical. (Although is it just me, or has the “let’s paint everything white” trend morphed into a “let’s paint everything a bold yellow or teal or pink” trend??)

Anyway, I’ll paint the bed frames white, and then I can’t wait to play around with some fun pillows and textiles in the space.  I’m so freakin’ excited to have a wallpapered accent wall, it’s not even funny.

Have you ever tried a temporary wallpaper?  I have no idea what to expect.  But I’m always up for an adventure!

PS: In other news:  In honor of Veterans Day and all those who serve our country, I’m donating 10% of this weekend’s sales at Janery (now through Sunday at midnight) to the Walter Reed Society.   I can’t stress enough how important I think it is for all business owners, regardless of size, to give back to the community.  And also for us all to respect and honor the people who choose to join the military to serve our country.  Thank you.

    Love the paper!! Great idea.
Ps. do you have any ideas for decorating slanting walls? they look really empty but I’m not sure what to do with them. Our bedroom kind of looks like a trapezoid 🙂

Argh, slanted walls. Send me a picture? I’d go with light colors, probably paint the slanted wall the same as the straight walls. They’re SUCH a pain!

Wow, I’ve never heard of temporary paper but this is definitely a great idea – especially for apartment renters.  Renting an apartment quite often means being limited to the decorating rules of the landlord.  Tempaper seems like a fantastic way of brightening up an apartment and cleaning up before you leave.  Thanks for the phost!
