Janery, Personal Life Posts

Quick Week in Review

Hi!  I hope you all had an awesome week last week, and thanks for cutting me some slack on the blog front.  I really needed to take a week off to focus on restocking Janery – I’ve still got a ton of sewing to do, but the great news is that when I’m done, the shop will be well stocked for a little while.

More importantly, this weekend I spent some ridiculously awesome quality time with Ryan.  He took me on an ultra-fabulous date, first to see the film Casablanca, with the orchestral score performed live by the National Symphony Orchestra.

We ended the night by going downtown to walk around DC – one of our favorite things to do at night.

If you’ve never seen Washington, DC at night, you’re missing out.  It’s incredibly peaceful and beautiful, and the monuments truly come to life with their amazing white glow against the dark sky.

Also, in case you missed the peek I shared on Twitter yesterday, I got a few sample yards of this beautiful fabric in and can not wait to see how awesome it looks in pillow form:

And after months of using the sample super-strong fabric grocery bag I made for myself, I finally bit the bullet and started making versions to sell in the shop.  I’ll only have a few at first, but if they’re popular then I’ll definitely add more!

While I did all this hard work, I received excellent supervision from my sweet little cat Aretha.
Apparently she has feelings about my Dwell Studio trellis pillows in the living room – because she also spent a ton of time cuddled up with them last week.  What can I say?  This feline clearly has good taste.

I also finally got to pick the first Zinnias from our garden.  Oh, they’re my favorite flowers, by a long shot.  You can’t kill them, they bounce back from hardcore heat and dehydration, and a handful of them look so lovely when cut and placed in a vase.

I had a great meeting with another local small business owner, and am inspired to start a monthly meetup for small business owners in the area.  I’m looking foward to creating more of a supportive community for people who are new to this whole “starting a business” thing.  The more I talk to people, the more invigorated I am to succeed – and the more I overcome my shyness and introversion.  So it’s a win-win situation all around!

Finally, I had another great meeting – this one was with my virtual assistant, who is really kicking my butt into gear and helping me get organized so that I can share much more awesomeness on the blog.  With that in mind, I hope to have some great rental-decorating specific posts coming up ASAP.  And if you’d like some help tackling a rental decorating challenge, let me know! I’d love to chime in with my 2 cents.

Phew.  What a week!  What have you all been up to??

My tutoring schedule has increased which is GREAT for the finances…not so great for blogging. BUT…I read an article on how to transform men’s button up shirts into cloth napkins. My husband has a few he doesn’t want anymore so I might just have to break out the sewing machine this week.

Glad you a good weekend.  I’ve never been to a NSO movie night, that looks fun.  I LOVE going downtown at time- it is so pretty, cooler and less crowded.
