Earlier this week I hinted that I got to meet not one, but two bloggers this past weekend. And I did! My longtime bloggy friend Mikalah, her husband, and her little sister were crossing through Virginia on their way home to Minnesota, and we were lucky to be in their path.
On Sunday Mikalah and company (from the delightful blog Posy the Porcelain Pig) took a road trip break for an afternoon bbq at the Borrowed Abode. I was quite nervous about having a home blogger come to my house for the first time, becuase of course I wanted everything to be perfect.
But then I realized that my friends – online or in person friends – aren’t judging me for being perfect or not. They weren’t coming over to see a magazine-worthy home; they were coming to spend time with us so that we could all enjoy each other in person [finally]. So then I chillaxed about the house. (I did, however, spruce up my living room with new pillows ahead of time.)
We had a fun meal and plenty of good conversation. Mikalah was totally awesome, and we kept discovering random little things we had in common. And she didn’t run screaming from the house when we explained about our kitchen door spider, even though she and I both hate spiders. Our significant others even got along well. (And with Ryan the introvert, that’s a total score.) And Mikalah’s little sister was so much fun to talk to too. She’s wise beyond her teenage years; if I’d met her without knowing her age I’d have thought she was surely an “adult.”
So now you’re probably wondering, what does Mikalah the blogger write about?
In her home Mikalah rocks a style that I would maybe call modern-meets-vintage-chic. I just love it. And now that I’ve met her in person, it totally fits! I love that, when you meet someone online, get to know them that way, and then when you meet them in person it all matches up – that way you know they’re keeping it real online.
I don’t even remember how I found her, but I liked her mix of vintage pieces, modern DIY projects, and just plain sweet-as-pie heart that shone straight through her blog, loud and clear. And then one day she kind of put the icing on the cake, as far as I’m concerned, when she randomly transformed a boring old table with a coat of bright orange paint. That table, juxtaposed with her mid-century modern couch, just rocked my world. Of course, I may be biased, because she did it at the same time that I was adding orange accents to my otherwise neutral bedroom.
She also reupholsters chairs, like this beautiful one right here:
And. . . drum roll, please . . . she refashions clothes, just like I do! She managed to create this lovely outfit using a dowdy long skirt. After seeing this transformation, I guarantee you I will never look at dowdy skirts in the Goodwill the same way again! Doesn’t she look fab, and oh-so-fashionable?
Most importantly, she’s a woman after my own heart: she quit her corporate job to pursue her dream career, even though it meant she had to start living her life on a smaller budget. Can I get an “Amen?”
So to wrap this up, let me just say – it was a fabulous meet up. I’m so glad we were able to work it out, but now I’m more bummed that they live all the way in Minnesota! I guess I’ll just have to find my way out there sometime in the next year. 🙂

Love this post, and love mikalah 🙂
Thanks for introducing me to another cool blogger. I love that she restyles clothes. That is something I have always wanted to do…if only I could stop my sewing machine from jamming 😉 I am glad you had a great time together – isn’t it cool how this blogging thing can turn into a friendship thing? 🙂
Awww, totally love Mikalah! So glad you guys got to meet IRL. We actually went to college together but had lost touch until we (literally) ran into each other in the paint dept of Home Depot. We stood there and talked for 45 minutes and planned a dinner date soon after. And the rest is history! Love that girl!!
