First, In honor of Jenn’s birthday and her What I Ate Wednesday party, here’s one of the best parts of my morning: a latte from my local coffee roaster. I have nothing else new to share, since we’ve been eating a ton of Notacos. And our reduced grocery bill thanks us!
Now it’s totally tool time at the Borrowed Abode. Not one, but two, power tools necessary for carpentry made their way into our ownership.
First, a second-hand table saw moved in. Now I don’t have to run to Home Depot every time I need a board cut!
The table saw was passed on to us by a friend, who upgraded to a newer model. That freed up our “table saw fund” for another important and exciting purchase: The DeWalt Compound Miter Saw.
Can I get a “Hell Yeah!” ?
Ladies, I can not wait to put these tools to good use. Thanks to the angular action of the miter saw, I’ll be able to make my own art and picture frames now! Totally ab-fab.
So what’s on the list of things to build?
- King sized bed frame
- Closet organizing shelves
- Smaller “floating” nightstands (the ones we built last summer are way bigger than we need in our bedroom)
- Bookshelves for the basement TV room (it’s the most embarrassingly unfinished space in the house now)
- Outdoor hanging daybed
- Tree house
I’m not joking about wanting to build a tree house. I know Ryan thinks I am, but trust me: I want to have my own little retreat up in the tree. Can you picture it? A little platform with an outdoor rug and some large throw pillows. I climb the ladder with a good book and cup of coffee and a sketch book, and spend some time writing in my journal, sketching ideas to sew, and read and relax. All while spying on the neighborhood from my birds’ eye view. 😉 Heavenly.
But back to the tools. Like with any new family member, their arrival means there must be some changes to accommodate them. In this case, it means we need to carve out a space in our basement work room for them. It’s gonna be a busy weekend.
PS: Waiting for a decor post? I have projects to share this week . . . it’s just that I haven’t gotten good light for photographing them.

ooh! and thank youuuuuuuuu! <3
Oo la la! Those are some pretty sweet saws. I’m jealous.
Love the idea of a treehouse. We might be getting one that was a part of some art project and that needs a home. My fingers are crossed.
Oh my goodness, a tree house??? SOO COOL! Sorry to yell, but seriously, that is awesome. Those power tools are amazing, and i am slightly jealous. Which is strange, because usually I get jealous of shoes or cute clothes, not power tools! =)
So jealous! Can’t wait to have a work space and some tools.
Will you be doing tutorials on making your own picture frames and such? We have one of those but I’m kind of a newbie at using it!
Absolutely ! I’m definitely new to using a miter saw so I’ll be sure to
share everything I learn as I go!
Love the saw! 🙂 can’t wait to see your first few projects.
Did you know that miter saws, while not designed for use with comestibles, does an excellent job in cutting sandwiches? The vacuum bag doesn’t catch all the jelly though so have a hungry dog waiting on standby behind it.
