Living Room

New Abode, Part 1: Living Room

Are you ready to peek inside my new home?

Today I’ll show you the living room.   I absolutely love it, from the large picture window that lets in an abundance of natural light, to the moulding around the ceiling and the recessed lighting.  I feel quite spoiled, and not at all as though I’m living in a rental home.

The living room leads to the dining area and the open kitchen, which you can see from this angle (taken from the front the front door area):

I’ve got a little bar tray set up below the starburst  mirror.   I’m still tweaking its style (need a good, vintage ice bucket and glass cocktail shaker), but  It feels so glam in a Great Gatsby or Frank Sinatra sorta way.  See that rugged bottle opener that adds a bit of surprise to the scene?  That’s the spoils from my one and only blog giveaway win to-date, courtesy of Jeannine @ Small and Chic in C-Ville.

And how about that lovely white Crate and Barrel Petrie sofa?  Remember how I saved over $1100 by buying it used on Craigslist?  It does have a tear in the armrest – oh wait, you can’t see that, so I shouldn’t remind you!  Someday I’ll probably get it reupholstered, but for now I am loving it just the way it is.

You may also notice that I was able to reuse my custom furniture that hid the heater in my old living room, turning the shelf units into end tables.

What this room needs now is a serious splash (or five) of color.  I love the calm, creamy tones of the furniture and carpet, but the room’s a bit bland.  I plan to replace my two vintage white chairs with two slipper chairs upholstered in bright fabrics, and sew some coordinating throw pillows for the sofa.  Then I’d like to deck the oh-so-empty walls with some fun original art.

But considering it’s the first month in my new home, I’d say we’re off to a great start. What do you think?

LOVE the living room AND the kitchen. And why do you want to get rid of the white chairs? They are fabulous!!! Paintings on the wall would pack the color punch you want. I’ll be on the lookout for some you might be interested in. Or, of course, you could probably paint something yourself. It seems that you can do just about everything else!! You are a talented girl!

Gorgeous! I LOVE those white chairs and that sofa is divine. Great job Jane. And the kitchen looks fab too. I wish you could find something fab for your dining nook – like a lucite or glass topped table. Not that it’s what you want, but I just think it would look great with the white furniture. Which I love. Finally, thanks for always commenting… you are such a wonderful bloggy support. Any stuff about Miami gonna be posted soon?

WOW. I love this space! I know you want to add more color, but it looks so great the way it is too! I love your knack for combining mid-century pieces with a modern, fresh look!

I love the colour of your walls. Did you paint it yourself? Do you have the brand and the number? Thanks in advance, please if you do sent it to my e-mail. I would like to redecorate my living room also!!!
