Thrifty Fix: Scarf Storage Solution

In an attempt to be neat and tidy, I’ve always stored my scarves in a little basket on my vanity shelf.

Scarves before

However, as I’ve worked the scarves into more and more outfits lately, I’ve grown tired of digging through the mess of silks and satins to sling a wrinkled and creased number around my neck.   I was suddenly hit with a burst of inspiration as I pondered a storage solution that would allow them to hang, but without buying a silly customized hanging system that I’d have to bury in my [tiny] closets.

No more than ten minutes later – ten! – inspiration had met reality.  How?  I snagged some extra plastic shower-curtain-hanging-hoops that I had laying around, sewed them onto a strip of blue and brown ribbon that matched my office/guest room palette, affixed the end of the ribbon to the top of a closet door, and voila –  my scarves were not only hanging, but decorative.

I threaded the scarves through the hooks and stood back, camera in hand, to admire my handiwork.

My scarves may not all be color coordinated to match the scene in the room, but they allow me to see all my choices so I can hopefully utilize them even more.

Hooray for a quick and cheap scarf solution that anyone – really, anyone – can do!

OOh this one might work even better for the back of the closet door! I have tons of ribbon AND extra clear plastic rings! Thanks girl!

I love this. I featured it in a scarf holder round up at Storage Geek with full credit and link back. I also shared the other one you made that hangs on a piece of fabric in a closet. Great job on both!

Maybe I haven’t had enough coffee, or its just a Monday morning thing…but how did you sew the rings on the ribbon? I can’t tell on the pic. Is it just a looped over the part that snaps together like you’d fasten a button?

That’s a good question! Yes, I just sewed it with loops around the ring as I would loop through and over a button. I probably did 10 or so loops for each ring.
