Blogger Spotlight: Sarah with an H

This past weekend was fabulous.  Big fat fabulous.  You know why?  Not only did I get some sweet sewing done, I had the opportunity to hang out with not one, but TWO fabulous bloggers in person!

I’m going to post separately about them, though, for fairness’ sake.

The first blogger of the weekend was Sarah with an “H”.  I found her back in May, when she posted on our local town blog.  I was so excited to see that there was another blogger nearby!  Of course I popped straight over to Sarah’s blog, and poked around for a bit, and commented on a few posts, sharing my excitement on finding another local blogger (or at least I think that’s what I did).

Then the insecurities set in.

“What if she thinks I’m totally lame? What if she has a gazillion blog buddies and wonders why some random blogger is trying to be friendly?  What if she thinks my blog isn’t good enough?”

Isn’t it funny, and almost ridiculous, these things that we sometimes say in our heads?

But Sarah didn’t think I was a total dork [as far as I know].   She actually stopped by my Janery booth at the Viva Vienna festival.   And then when I was in Boston helping Melissa move, we found out – via Twitter, of all things – that we had several verrry important things in common.  Aside from a love of blogging.   Love of coffee?  Check.  Interest in DIYing art and other home stuff?  Check.  There’s more, but you get the point.

From decorating to child-rearing to cooking and just plain writing good stories, Sarah discusses a little bit of everything on her blog.  But each post is filled with honesty, and her writing is so well-crafted.  The post that really sold me on her was her post entitled  “A story of tears, leaky boobs, and a freezer full of breastmilk: how I nursed for a year and lived to tell the tale.” Man, her refreshing mix of honesty and humor in her account of her daughter’s first year totally had me hooked – and I don’t even have kids.  If you have kids, or are even thinking about maybe someday having kids, then I think this is a must-read.

And if you’re more  into kids of the 4-legged variety, Sarah’s got stories that will probably ring close to home for you, too.  My favorite, one that I can seriously relate to, is the story of . . . um. . . what she had to yank out of her dog’s rear end in front of all the neighbors early one morning.  Yep, that had me laughing a good bit too.  (In a sympathetic way, of course!)

Finally, for those of us who have organized closets and homes, but totally disorganized computers, overflowing email accounts, and straight up mental disorganization (ahem. . . me . . ), Sarah’s post on her online organizational system may be really helpful.

This past weekend, we finally got to meet up for real at Caffe Amouri (where else would I go in this town?).

We chatted for a few hours and I was surprised to find even more similar interests between the two of us.  I’m not trying to be totally corny, but it was interesting to see that of all the types of local bloggers I could have run into online, I ran into one whom I actually get along with and share common interests with.  So that’s exciting!

We broke the cardinal rule of blogging, though.  At our meetup, we totally forgot to take a photo.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I’m super stoked to have met a fantastic blogger who also happens to be a neighbor.  Hopefully you’ll see us teaming up for some fun DIY projects in the future.  After all, we only live a few blocks apart!

Have you met any bloggers in person lately?  Or ever?  It’s funny how just a few years ago meeting people online used to be reserved for creepy guys who lurked in their parents’ basements . . . or people who couldn’t get dates IRL . . . and now it’s completely socially acceptable.   🙂

Thanks, Jane!  I like you, too! 🙂 I know, total bummer we didn’t get a picture.  Good thing we are neighbors.  Let’s get together again soon – I have some ideas for a special blog friends thing we can do 🙂

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a number of bloggers over the year and each time it’s a really nice experience. And one day, I’m sure I’ll get to meet you too. 🙂

My blogger friend, turned real life friend connected up this weekend too. Our first IRL meeting was when we realized we lived a mile from each other in Minneapolis. Her house had just been hit by a tornado (our place was missed by 4 blocks) and we (my fiancé included) volunteered to clean up from the aftermath of the storm. It was such a great experience helping our community together. And then there was this weekend…we met up and took part in an I Love Thrifting event. Super fun times ensued. Bloggy buddies are the best. Check out Carla’s blog: http://www.hammersandhighheels.blogspot.com.
