It’s that time of year again. No, I’m not talking about the holidays, I’m talking about the time of year when Pantone releases their “Color of the Year.” 2010’s lucky duck is Turquoise.
Apparently it is a color that “pairs very nicely with any other color in the spectrum.” Hmm. We’ll have to see about that. They also claim that “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”
I’m not so convinced that a single color can wash our cares away in the midst of a recession and high unemployment rates, but I’m willing to be proven wrong.
But what is to become of last year’s honored color, Mimosa? Will it be washed down like a bad drink of the same name, becoming as unwelcome to fashion and decor as a hangover the morning after the big party? That poor color. Yesterday’s news. I happen to like it; in fact it is one of the tones in my living room decorating scheme. I guess I’ll just be a little behind the times. There’s no room in my home for turquoise at this point.

You know, a mimosa with grenadine is absolutely delish. I want one, but do to my current situation I’ll settle for oreos.
Not crazy about the Pantone turquoise.
I feel like I have already seen various shades of teal and turquoise everywhere. Designers Guild has been on that boat for awhile already, but I noticed just last week that it was popping up in many other places… It seems almost as if Pantone is behind on this prediction. Mimosa is too fun to disappear completely. I say keep it!
