2011 Rental Decorating Ideas Roundup

As one of my goals for 2011 was to discuss more rental decorating ideas on The Borrowed Abode, I thought it fitting to usher in the new year with a roundup of our most popular rental-related posts from 2011.  But if you’re a homeowner, you can peek too – because all of these ideas could be used in your homes, too!

Of course, our whole house is rented – so anything I blog about doing here is most likely landlord-approved.  (You’ll never read about a kitchen renovation on this blog!) But these are topics we tackled for those of you who have more difficult or restrictive landlords.

Beyond White Paint :  In our Beyond White Paint miniseries, we looked at several alternatives to painted walls, just to help out renters who aren’t allowed to paint.

Beyond White Paint, Episode 1:  Curtained Walls

Beyond White Paint, Episode 2: The Gallery Wall

Beyond White Paint, Episode 3: Tape the Walls

Stay tuned, because this very occasional miniseries won’t end with the year 2011.  Just this week I installed a new product on my walls, and can’t wait to share the results with you.

In conclusion:  This list isn’t as long as I’d hoped – but it’s a start.  In the new year I’ll strive to bring you even more awesome ideas.

Here’s the one thing that didn’t happen this year:  I really wanted to help some of my readers tackle rental decorating dilemmas in their homes.  I got some emails, but never ones with photos.  So please, if you’d like help – just drop me a line – but remember that I need photos in order to see what you need help with!   And in 2012 I’d really love to spotlight other awesome rental homes and apartments – so drop me a line if you’d like to show yours off!

Happy New Year! Is it too early to crack the bubbly? Oh wait . . . I’d better not. I have furniture to build 😉

      Hi Melanie –
Welcome to a fellow renter, and thanks so much for the kind words!
If you ever want some virtual “help” figuring out decorating or storage solutions in your apartment, you’re always welcome to email me with photos and a description of the dilemma, and I’ll gladly offer up some ideas in exchange for being about to post it on the blog 🙂

Wow, so wish I had your blog to refer to when we were renters. My hubby and I rented for the first 9 years of our marriage and sometimes it was so hard to make it feel our own! You’ve got lots of good, helpful info!
