Cottages at Chesley Creek Farm: A perfect romantic mountain getaway

From the number of comments and emails I’ve received, I’m pretty sure every blog reader I’ve ever had now knows that Ryan whisked me away last weekend to pop the question.  And you all keep telling me you’re waiting to hear the story.

Well keep on waiting, ladies (and gents?), because I’m posting things in the order in which they occurred. 🙂

Kicking off this celebratory week of awesome is a tour of our borrowed vacation abode.  Why are we starting with a cabin tour, and not the proposal story?  Because before he could pop that big Q, I had to take photos for the blog, of course! 🙂

Ryan rented a sweet little cabin for two at the Cottages at Chesley Creek Farm.  It was more luxurious than any cabin I’ve ever stayed in before.  Located on the side of a mountain about 30 minutes outside of Charlottesville, VA, the 4 cottages are scattered amongst a farm property, each placed far enough apart that you totally feel like you’re on your own private vacation property.  And they’re set up so wonderfully inside, with cozy towels and bedding and sweet-smelling soap, it’s much like a bed & breakfast.

Ryan had booked the Creek house, which was on the hillside overlooking woods and a creek.

Though the cabin was small by most people’s standards,  it was the perfect size.  Heck, it was about the size of apartments I’ve had, only much nicer.  I could easily live in a space like this.

The cabin was essentially divided into two halves – the living room / dining room / kitchen half, and the bedroom/bathroom half.

In the living room half, the kitchen ran the length of the wall. To the right of the kitchen area, a fireplace faced the living room area.

I loved the warm wood paneling and the large windows in the corner of the living room.

The vaulted ceiling kept the small space feeling wide open.

The bookshelf positioned behind the black club chairs served as a divider between the living and dining areas.  Apartment-dwellers, take note! This is a perfect small-space solution!

The back door led from the kitchen/dining space out to a large deck.  Because the cabin was built into a hillside, the deck ended up being 1 story off the ground, making you feel like you were hanging out in a treehouse!  I spent my mornings out there, and it was heavenly.  (There were no mosquitos, either.)

Now let’s go back to the front door and check out the other half of the cabin.

Upon entering the cabin, the entrance to the bedroom was on the right.  The bedroom was also nice and light, with the other half of the vaulted ceiling and more large windows.

And the bed was super cozy, with a great combo of both memory foam pillows (awesome!) and feather pillows to choose from.

Beyond the bedroom was a small dressing room / closet / sink area, which didn’t turn out well in my photos.

From there a door opened into a beautiful, spacious, light-filled bathroom.  A bathroom with a ginormous jacuzzi tub, surrounded by windows and treetops.  Don’t mind me, I’ll happily grab a pillow and sleep in the tub!  🙂

I forgot to get photos of the rest of the bathroom, but there was a nice walk-in shower and toilet, etc.  And the towels.  The towels were so soft and comfy; much nicer than most hotel towels.  And by the tub was a little basket of toiletries, including a yummy herbal bath salt to use in the jacuzzi.

I didn’t get many nice photos outside, either, because Ryan was in a rush to walk down to the creek.  Gee, I wonder why.   But here’s a quick shot of some of the space surrounding our little abode.  There was also a big fire pit, a hammock, and more woods.

And it’s evident that Chuck and Stu, the innkeepers (who live on the farm), have their hearts in it.  On the second day, we returned to the cabin from a hike, to find a little basket of cookies waiting at the front door.  How sweet is that?

So if you’re thinking that a mountain escape is on your must-do list, I would most definitely recommend the Cottages at Chelsey Creek Farm.  We’ll definitely be returning – maybe to celebrate the 1-year anniversary of August 19th.

I love that each cabin is set up perfectly for two, yet if you wanted to travel with another couple or two, you could each rent a cabin at the farm in order to spend time both together and alone.   There’s also a pool, though we didn’t get over to it at all.  We were too busy spending time on the back porch or reading in the hammock – generally enjoying being out in the woods, away from computers and phones.  Oh, and getting engaged.  But we’ll save that story for tomorrow!

You were in my town and didn’t call? 😉

Cute little cabin. I love that they decorated it with a mix of traditional and Ikea furnishings.

Dammit, I knew someone would call me out on that!

Believe me, when Ryan said we were going to C-ville, I said ‘hey, we should meet up with bloggers for coffee or something!’ He said “not this time. It’s just about us.” I grumbled, but now I think we can all see why 🙂 Forgive me!

That looks like a fabulous cottage.  My husband and I never got a honey moon and are thinking for our tenth (two more years, eeep!) we will rent a nice cottage for the week, dump the kids at the grandparents and have some nice alone time 😉

I love that even on your “getaway,” you have the eye for furniture arrangement :).
I got sucked in to the “Design on a Dime” shows on HGTV today!
Can’t wait to hear the proposal story.

That looks lovely.  I’ll have to keep it in mind.  I like that you had your own hammock and fire pit.  The cabin feels (or looks?) cozy, not generic.
