Guest Room

Guest Room Inspiration

With my studio & dressing room makeover finally complete (until I pick up my new furniture in New Hampshire this summer), it’s time for a new decorating challenge:  our guest room.

This is a space that I’m dying to decorate.  I want to make it wonderful and elegant and just utterly fabulous, because it’s important to me to always provide my guests with a comfortable space in which to relax and be at home in my home.   Also, it’s my chance to throw caution to the wind and have fun with the decor, because Ryan’s agreed to keep his opinions out of it.

So you think I’d be raring to go, right?  Wrong.  It occurred to me last night that I have no earthly idea where I want to start with it.  Not even a color palette or an inspiration piece.  Really, the only limiting factor (other than budget) is the fact that it’s a small room, with a low ceiling covering part of it.

So I hopped on Pinterest for some ideas.  I found a ton of lovely spaces, but this room is really calling to me with its’ colors of Tiffany blue and red.

But what are we really working with?  This tiny little space located off the end of the basement:

Which currently looks like this:

Actually, that’s a lie.  The daybed is currently folded up to twin size right now and there’s a few bits of art hanging on the walls.

But yeah, it needs serious work in order to become a luxurious, glamorous space.

So what are your favorite rooms like?  Any suggestions on trends I might want to check out?  I’m seriously a blank slate right now. . . I’d love to know what you’d do to a room if you had unlimited possibilities.

PS:  Not only can you find me on Pinterest, did you know you could join the fun at Facebook too?  I occasionally try to come up with something to say over there. 🙂

Making your guests feel at home, to me, makes me think you should make it feel like it’s *not* a hotel. Put some colour on the walls and hang up some of your photographs. Perhaps a rug or a fabric wall hanging could give the space a “softer” feel.

I love the top one – those colors are so warm and inviting to me, and I think something like that could really work with your floors. Are you planning on throw rugs or an area rug as well? Can’t wait to see your project!

WHOOHOOOOO TIFFANY BLUE AND RED! i love it more and more with each pinterest stalk and shopping trip (where I only get to shop with my eyes. boo! haha)

I will help you decorate once I figure out what on earth i’m telling the buyer to do with our house! eep! I think the bottom floor will be a sagey light green and the top floor will be a light but bright tiffany-ish blue. and then we can paint individual rooms as we see fit once we save up some paint moolah! eep!

loooove your inspiration in this post! love! my bedroom is brown and blue right now like this! We used brown and blue floral canvas art (3 pieces) for a backdrop above the bed and then chose a few vases and lamps to accent it too =)

i’ll be more help soon! eep!

I think you’re probably right about it being tough to decorate such a small room! One thing that (imo) would quickly change it from ‘basement utility’ to ‘fabulous guest’ would be carpeting (or a nearly wall-to-wall rug)… that floor is scary for a bedroom! o.O

I love your inspiration photos. That tiffany blue room is totally amazing! I haven’t joined Pinterest yet, but I’ve been hearing so much about it lately, I think I need to check it out!

I simply adore the first room! I’ve seen lots of guest rooms with two twin beds… may seem a little unorthadox, but that way you could have a couple or two friends stay over, plus there are great options for decorating. I’m addicted to Pinterest btw!

Love the Tiffany blue and red! I do worry that the other inspiration picture with the dark walls might be too dark for a basement guest bedroom. Regardless, all of those pictures are gorgeous!

I love the first photo with the blue and yellow — so cheery.

We have a tiny little guest room. Actually, it’s more of a nook, so we call it the guest nook. It’s a cozy little sleeping area with lots of pillows and plenty of blankets in the winter.

For your guest room, I’m with everyone else and think that a rug is a necessity.

Totally agree on the rug. Forgot to mention it, but I’m so totally covering
      that cold tile floor. 🙂

Lots of pillows and blankets are also going to be in my space, for sure!

I love that you want your guests to have an amazing experience. And, I actually love that the room is small … I think it’ll give you the chance to really provide a cozy, elegant and welcoming experience. I LOVE that red and blue room above. Gorgeous!
