It’s Sunny in Florida!

. . . No, I’m not talking about the weather.

We are back from our Florida va-cay, and only 1/2 my forehead and one ear are burnt.  And don’t ask me how you burn 1/2 of your forehead.

I’ve got tons to share. We lounged by the pool, we ate amazing food, wandered into a questionably unsafe mid-mod neighborhood…where do I start?  Let’s start with the best part of all , which was getting to meet our blog friend Sunny from Life in Rehab (and her family) IN REAL LIFE!

We drove from Melbourne, FL (where we were staying with Ryan’s friends he met playing World of Warcraft) down to Hollywood Beach on Sunday.  We were a bit late because it took longer than planned to visit my grandparents’ old condo and mausoleum in West Palm Beach, but finally we made it.  I was a nervous wreck, because I felt so bad that we were running late.

But then we made it, and we met Sunny, her husband Sam, and her amazing daughter Savannah.

Hanging out with these people was one of the very best parts of our trip.  More fun than Miami itself. Here’s why:

  • Sunny is freakin’ hilarious, but you probably guessed that from her blog.
  • Her husband Sam is also funny and awesome.
  • Her daughter Savannah is an amazing chick.  I couldn’t believe how mature she was, yet not in a boring way 🙂
  • It was apparent to me that they’re amazing parents.  The first clue was the fact that their teenage daughter actually appears to like hanging out with them.  And at one point even she may have uttered the words “you’re a great mom.”
  • There’s a ton more reasons, but I’m not remembering.  I blame it on the mojitos.

I didn’t get more pictures.  I was too busy laughing most of the time. Oh, and drinking mojitos.   And being envious that this beach-side bar is right in her backyard.  But Sunny has more photos, which you can see right here.

We were there for 4 hours or something crazy like that.  Ryan the introvert told me that he actually had a blast, which is a major score.  And we escaped without being spray painted by Sunny.  So I’d say all in all it was a great time!

Jane, I wish you guys lived closer! We had an absolute blast with you guys, a perfect afternoon, and if it hadn’t been a school night, we would have hung out longer. Thanks again for a great time!

Seriously, this makes my heart hurt a little. I grew up ten minutes from Hollywood, FL and miss their downtown so much! I’m glad you had an awesome trip Jane!

How fun! So cool that you two got to meet each other! It does sound like they are doing a spectacular job being parents. I love how their kids are so unique and they really affirm that it’s ok to be yourself. My parents raised me that way too, and it’s the best! And also, amazing that you escaped without being spraypainted. Question of the day: does she actually carry a bottle of spray paint in her purse at all times? Just curious. =)
