Exciting News and a Giveaway!

This Giveaway is now closed to entries.

I’ve been keeping a secret from you all.  I won an exciting contest, and now that the affidavit has been signed and notarized, and the prize pack received, I’m ready to spill the beans!

Back before Christmas I entered my Christmas Stocking Branch idea in the Take Command of your Space contest held by the company that makes Command Brand adhesive strip products.  Imagine my surprise when I got an email from them telling me I won!

So what’s the prize?  A Flip Video Camera, $100 in Command Adhesive Products, and – drum roll – $500 freakin’ dollars.  When I saw that, my jaw hit the floor.   Not only was it exciting to win, but that little chunk of dough meant that I could actually do something for the blog that I’d been dying to do:  travel to Nashville for the Blissdom Conference in the end of January.  So I’m going to Blissdom, where not only will I learn a ton, but I’ll get to finally meet Katie from Making This Home!  (Thanks, Katie, for sharing a room with me!)

There’s only one catch:  in order to get that $500 check, I have to use the Flip Video Camera to make a 1-2 minute video describing how I used those Command adhesive products to deck my halls with that winning idea.   ACK.  Yeah, the prize pack of products and Flip camera arrived yesterday, and I’m seriously freaking out.  I have to have the video made by Friday, and I know that it shouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m most definitely nervous!  They suggest that I re-make the scenario to provide the best description, but I’m pretty sure that re-hanging the branch would take more than 2 minutes. So I’m not quite sure what I’ll do about that.  If you’ve got any video pointers, please let me know.

But that’s a problem for another day.  Right now we need to talk about all the goodies I won – and how I want to pass them on to you guys as a giveaway!

The goody box consisted of a cute storage bin and $100 of products, including the fabulous Velcro Picture Hanging Strips, two large white wall organizers, several types of wall hooks, cord wranglers, mini cord clips, and more.

I set aside a few items for myself, including the Flip Camera (gotta make that video) and the citrus green wall hooks which just happened to match my new studio walls perfectly, and then I boxed up the rest of the goodies so I could pass them all on to you as a giveaway!

If you’re wondering why on earth I want to give away the bulk of the prize pack, it’s because I want to reward you guys with a totally rental-friendly prize as a huge thank you for your encouragement and inspiration in 2010.  Your comments, your emails, and just the fact that you actually take the time to read what I write means so much to me. It’s that support which keeps me inspired to think up new ideas, including the branch idea that won me this contest!

But enough mushiness.  Here’s a close-up of the giveaway prize:

Now for my official Command Brand product giveaway details:

The Prize: A box of 12 Command Brand adhesive products

Who’s Eligible: Anyone with a shipping address in the United States or Canada

Prize Value: It’s got to be at least $50, but maybe more

To Enter: Comment on this post, and while you’re at it, let me know what you’d like to see more of on the blog in the coming year!   One entry per email address.  But want a bonus entry or two?  Tweet this or hop over to The Borrowed Abode’s Facebook page, become a fan, and share the link.  Either way, be sure to leave a separate comment if you Tweet or Facebook it!

Giveaway Closes: Friday, Jan. 21, 8 pm EST

Disclaimer:  Just to keep it real with you guys, I want to assure you that although I won the products via the Command contest, I was not asked to write about it or do a giveaway.  I’m doing it because I love the products and want to share them with you.

Now stay tuned for that video, which I’ll share just as soon as I’ve made it and submitted it to Command!

PS:  Iif you’d like some free help with a decorating challenge in your rented home, (with our without the use of branches), drop me a line!

Do you have a Mac? I learned to edit my videos with iMovie pretty quickly when I got mine. If you need help editing, let me know. 🙂

I’m so excited that you’re going to Blissdom! Be sure to make calling cards for your blog!

That’s super exciting, Jane. Congratulations! I would love to see more storage solutions for… everywhere. Maybe it’s just a sign that I have too much stuff, but I’m the person with stacks of books sitting around because they won’t all fit on my shelves, a bin of tea on top of my wardrobe (I really like tea and have a lot of it), and baskets of toiletries shoved under my sink. And while some of the storage I have is fairly functional, it doesn’t always look so nice. I’m pretty sure my favourite project you have done is the jewelry storage out of the window. I am still pretty much entirely in love with that. =)

Congratulations on this! I saw your name on the Command site and was so GIDDY excited for you! You are so deserving! 🙂

Yay Jane! Congratulations. So, I am obviously digging this giveaway and would love to win since we are renting again. It would largely simplify my first-time mom life.

As for the video – I totally recommend re-hanging the project and then taking it down all in the video. The point of the product is ease and clean walls, right? Do you have other spaces which you can highlight your use of command products?

As for the blog, I want more video! I think it’d be great if you did video tutorials, tours of the coffee houses you & Ryan love, shopping excursions, and of course, your very own house tour!

Don’t be nervous friend. You will rock the video. Just be your awesome self.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I loved your branch hanging idea, and I’m super happy that you won because of it!

For the video, I would try using the video camera like an actual camera for the beginning. Film a blank wall, stop recording to put up the hooks, film the branch being put up by one of the hook, stop recording to finish that job, then resume recording to explain the rest.
Since I will be renting for quite a while and I live with two guys (husband and roommate),

I would LOVE to see more on how you and Ryan decorate without looking too girly. I seem to only get away with a little decorating here and there due to a very restricted budget and outside opinions.
I love your blog! Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! I adore the fabric your stockings are made of – I bought a ton of it right before Christmas and have done nothing with it so far. I recently found your blog and am a big fan – thanks for your efforts!

Congratulations, what an awesome prize back and you’re so generous to be sharing with your readers.

I’d love to see more DIY furniture builds. I can’t wait for warmer weather to build my own end tables from the project you posted.

I loved the branch idea too! So glad you won. Have to say, I’m super jealous. We are currently stationed in Europe, which means 1) renting and 2) concrete/cinder block walls. So I have 3M Command Hooks and accessories ALL OVER this house. It’s the only thing that works short of drilling huge holes in the walls. Craziness!

Love the blog. {And the occasional “What the Hells” :-)} Keep up the good work!

    Hello Jane,

Congratulations on winning the contest! I recently stumbled onto your blog and read through a ton of archives in one day. You have such great ideas for renters on a budget. I’m so exited to try some out! I fell in love with the jewelry display window and instantly sent a link to my mom. We’re both currently searching for materials to make our own. I also loved the fabric covered boxes and “white” board. I love simple solutions that can coordinate! I’m very excited to see what’s coming up this year. As to the video, if you have editing software, why don’t you hang the branch and play it in double time. This can shorten the overall length and can be really cute with some fun music. Congratulations again!

    Congrats Jane!!!!!
Even though I am a home owner now, I still love and use the command products everywhere!!! Most recently outside decorations for xmas… alll my christmas lights and my wreaths on my front porch! I love your up-cycling organization tips, keep them coming!!! and again, congrats!!!

    Hi Jane,

It was such a great idea, you totally deserved to win! I am sure your finished video will be as awesome as the idea. I would probably do some editing to speed it up and not have my own voice in the video, because whenever I hear my voice in a video I think I sound so chessy, but alas that might just be a me problem. Fingers crossed that you love blissdom.

Your stocking branch is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! You SO deserved to win! VERY VERY VERY Awesome!

I found your blog via Katie at Making this Home 🙂 Have fun at Blissdom!

I want to see more of your garden this year! PS I could really use those hooks since we’re massively redecorating my apartment right now (we’re having a roommate switch). I will be hitting up for some design advice! 🙂

  • Reply Lori B. at 9:33 pm

Congrats on your winnings and good luck making the video! If you have a mac, iMovie is pretty cool to work with. I currently own my house, but I still love using command hooks because they are so versatile.

I just know there would be a solution for a hanging challenge I have in my home. I have a pocket door that slides into a wall that I’d like to hang a large object on. I cannot nail anything into the wall because of the door inside it. A Command hook would do the trick!

Became a fan on FB and shared the link. Would be great to win this. Congrats on YOUR win and thanks for sharing the love with your readers.

That’s so cool, congrats! I’d love to see more about kitchen/food storage. We have so little space altogether, let alone the kitchen (which has no food storage other than the fridge).
PS – The comments on here won’t ever let me post my blog in the website section, it always freaks out and deletes my comments : (

Congrats on winning such a great prize. I love what you did with the branch. Very cute and clever. Which command product would be strong enough to use for drapes? My friend lives in a place where they aren’t even allowed to hang pictures, let alone drapes. Katharine

I don’t pop in for a couple of days and all of THIS happens??? My son, who makes films, suggested you do re-enact hanging the branch, but time lapse any part of the video that isn’t actual explanation.
