Accessories, Primary Bedroom

LOVE {My first painting}

On the wall opposite the end of my bed I’d like to do some sort of photo/art wall, but I can’t decide if I should build a photo ledge to display everything, or if I should hang every piece on the wall in a grouping.  Right now all I’ve got is a LOVE painting that I made, and an art print that I ordered from BluLima on Etsy.  (I absolutely love her prints, by the way.  You must check them out!)

The orange is, of course, a perfect match for our bedroom’s color scheme, and the sentiment expressed is just what I need to see when I wake up each morning!

But this wee collection is looking a bit sad right now.  I think I need to paint the frame the same dark color as my nightstands, so that it stands out better.  And maybe get (make) a frame for the LOVE painting?

Wondering how I made the LOVE painting?  I printed out the letters and used them as a template, then used some good-quality acrylic paints and a canvas from Michaels.  Painting it was a total blast, even if it did use more paint than expected.  I’m definitely going to make more paintings now!!

But back to my problem at hand – because, you know, this blog is just sooo all about me 🙂 – what do you think?  Picture ledge or wall grouping?

    Why not do both!? start with a ledge while you have only a few photos and then progress into a big ole wall o’ amazingness! =)

    I like the idea of doing a bunch of pieces of art. Or, you do one HUGE piece, that would be pretty cool too 🙂 Love your art that you have now though!

    The painting looks great. Very cute. Now I happen to know that picture groupings make me batty, but I think it might be cute in your room. You already have a lot of linear features in the room so something random may offset that nicely. Think interesting pieces… state plates? Maybe a DIY of some plates with monogram. If that doesn’t seem to fit your aesthetic, there are so many options! I see a real mod/typography scheme here. Maybe you and Ryan can get some canvases and let out your inner Mondrian or Rothko. I could talk forever about art since I love it so much, but let me think of a few more things here: 3D art (objects mounted and painted a solid color), more beach theme photos, a pic of you and Ryan, doggie & cat silhouettes, fabrics, etc.

    I love the “LOVE” painted piece!

    I also think a wall grouping would work well for this space, particularly one made up of various personalized and handmade pieces like the sweet and simple “LOVE” painting.

    I’ve never made a painting before myself, but this post makes me feel like I should take a stab at it someday.

    I like the idea of a grouping, maybe if a mix of homemade and bought pieces. I love your LOVE painting!

    You need to get/do One Large Painting — that will ground the grouping and eliminate all the negative white space you have going on that wall. Or get a Large Mirror.

    Love the LOVE painting, but they are hung a bit too high. You need to lower them and add some other pieces. You should think about doing the LOVE painting in a larger format. Or perhaps a large scale collage.

    Great painting! Shelf vs. photo wall is such a hard choice! They are both awesome. I tend to lean more toward the photo wall because I just love an entire wall full of great art. You have a great space for that here, I think.

    I’m with Jenn L, do both so that you have the opportunity to change things out. And the LOVE piece is very cool.

    Great painting! I might have to copy it…such a good idea. I am partial to picture walls, but I’m really intrigued by the whole photo ledge trend right now. I love the idea of switching things out so easily. How about a group of shorter ledges??
