The Big Fat Fall Decor Post

Happy Fall!  Step inside my front door, why don’tcha, and check out the little fall touches I’ve added to our home.

Speaking of front doors, when we’re home, we keep the front door open so my Charlie can stand guard. The  cat scratching post that previously served as a doorstop has been switched up for a much classier – and seasonally appropriate – glittery pumpkin.

Fall Decor, Red Door & Dog

Though I’ve gone crazy with decorations in the past, I’m in the mood for a simpler approach to fall decor this year.   I think in our open living area, a little bit goes a long way.

I started by making a wreath for the front door, using odds and ends from last year.
Fall Wreath

As I unpacked my one small bin of last year’s fall decor, I found that there were fun little memories attached to everything.  See those acorns that the candles are nestled in?  I picked them up one wintry morning at my parents’ home, when walking the dogs with my dad.    And I’m happy to see that my homemade fall pillows tie in perfectly with the other fall bits.

When I took these photos, I loved the way the sun was streaming in, over the bowl of fall “stuff” that my mom and I found last fall when decorating together.

Fall Vignette Bowl

And outside we’ve piled the pumpkins from our road trip.   Mother nature lent a hand, providing a naturally artful scattering of those leaves that Ryan hates all over our front stoop:
Fall Pumpkins StepsCome Halloween weekend, we’ll carve the big ones and take the smaller ones inside to cook with.

This green apple gourd on the living room console, however, will not be cooked.  Yep, while many of you have put together vignettes with real – or lifelike – apples, I found an oversized wanna-be! Although it’s real, it’s purely decorative, according to the sign at the farmers’ market.

Fall Green Apple Gourd

Since I already had them from last year, I snuck some sparkly little gourds inside my console, too:

And on my kitchen island counter, some squash and fall flowers provide a [mostly] edible decorative touch:

And finally, a candle (of course!) with sand and random bits of fall stuff adds the finishing touch to the bathroom.

Fall Hurricane Candle

So that’s it for me – what about you? Are you decorating for fall, or halloween, or both? Or do you feel (like Ryan) that fall decor is just silly? Feel free to share a link to your fall or Halloween decor in the comments!

As Danielle said, simple but beautiful! That green apple gourd is awesome. I put a few Fall things out and toss in a few Halloween decorations for fun. After the BOO day is over I put those things away and leave the Fall stuffs out until it’s time for Christmas junk!!

I love the green apple gourds they are beautiful. My husband and I took our kids to a farm today to pick pumpkins and saw a bunch of the green apple gourds there for sale. Your decor looks great and I agree a little goes a long way.

I love a little fall decor in my life too…but haven’t done much besides buy a few gourds and put a HUGE mummy in our window. I did carve a ‘monogram’ pumpkin to dress up the front door area: http://diy-my-home.com/2010/10/carving-initial-in-pumpkin/
