Eco-Friendly Living

They read my mind. . .

Join me on a short tangent that has little to nothing to do with the borrowed abode – except for the environmentally-friendly thoughts of the woman who inhabits it.

Starbucks plays the card of a hipster, eco-conscious, progressive coffee shop.  However, they constantly fail to impress me in that whole progressive and/or eco-conscious bit.  Their non-biodegradable plastic cups are anything but earth friendly – I have some I’ve reused for over 2 years now, so think how they’d break down in a landfill – yeah, they’re recyclable, but think how many you see in trash cans.  How about their coffee?  Not all of it is fair trade.  At $4.50 a pop, you can’t make the espresso in my Pumpkin Spice Latte fair trade?

When I saw this blog from Green Daily, it was like they read my mind.  My first thought upon seeing Starbucks’ latest and greatest, Via instant coffee, was that it was in little plastic/foil packages.  How’s that for earth unconscions?  I’d write more, but this link from Green Daily about sums it up.

I’m right with you! Why haven’t they adapted to use those corn-based plastic cups? At least those aren’t as harsh as the traditional ones, though I’m not sure they are the ultimate answer to our problems with disposables.

Hey Jane! I know I’m not the greenest person, but I found a blog I thought you might like: Greta guide. She’s got some neat little posts about green stuff.

My green effort will just be switching out household cleaners and perhaps… maybe… cloth diapers.
