Decorating Dilemmas, My Old Apartment

Disruptive Doors & Other Architectural Grievances

This week I’m struggling with the spacial challenges provided by the walls and architectural features of my living room. This past weekend I scored a pair of mid-century modern arm chairs (and a couple other awesome items) at New Jersey’s Golden Nugget Flea Market.

Finally! I was so excited to score these two seats, and matching ones at that, to move my haphazard living room down the road towards a mid-century modern masterpiece! So imagine my disappointment when my carefully thought-out furniture rearrangement didn’t quite jive with the room as I’d hoped it would. My patient boyfriend helped me move the furniture back and forth last night, but to no avail.

With closet and entrance doors, archways, and windows on every wall, not to mention the fact that the living room does double-duty as a hallway from the kitchen/dining room to the bedrooms and bathrooms, I’m at a loss for how to position the funiture. I’ll give it another go tonight, and possibly stay up ’til the wee hours trying more combos, but in case that fails . . .

. . . I succumbed to the lure of HGTV’s Rate My Space tool. Already I’ve gotten a great pointer about potentially masking the ugly a/c unit with a table, and I’m looking forward to other people’s ideas. So go ahead, rate it!
